Life, Death and Citrus Fruit

Life, Death and Citrus Fruit. Watercolour on paper. 46cm x 41cm, framed. In private collection, Ireland.

Like the Gerbera and Tile paintings, this is about placing the flowers in relation to the tiles and in this painting, also in relation to the satsuma in a larger space, including the wooden worktop. The shrinking flower on the left gives a great contrast to the one on the right and also acts as a reference point to the piece of fruit. Also painted in electric light, I was trying to see how far I could go in layering the watercolour paint and in defining areas.
