Maria Reclining. Pencil on paper. 69cm x 62cm, framed. For sale.
Very much a ‘battle’ of a drawing. I was observing the model from a raised platform. I tend to use the pencil very robustly, pressing hard on the paper, making many tentative, then more confident marks, using a putty rubber only when absolutely necessary, or when I want to specifically define an area. The plants around Maria’s head and above her torso, and the shape of the bed help not only to describe her and to define her place, but also to aid the composition process.
