Maria Sitting

Maria Sitting. Pencil on paper. 94cm x 74cm, framed. For sale.

A large drawing, this took two solid weeks to complete. As in Cedric, I wanted to define the model’s occupied space as much as I wanted to define her. As the drawing progressed, I realised the importance of showing the hands resting on her lap completely, which would help widen the spatial context of the work and, hopefully give a sense of solidity and form. Adding extra paper solved this issue. There are a lot of tears, bumps and some replacement of paper in this work, which gives  a great sense of the journey of process.
