Pablo. Oil on board. 51cm x 51cm, framed. For sale.

Selected by the Royal Academy (London) for its annual exhibition. Painted during a hot summer’s week. I was trying to capture that intense light, where you almost can’t make things out. The colours defining Pablo (she insisted that’s how you spell her name!) had a deep richness in the shadowy areas, contrasting with the zappy and almost bleached brightness of the areas exposed to the often direct sunlight. The contrast between these really helped give definition and form to the model, as trying to understand her ‘place’ was very important.
